Lithuanian universities have a long standing practice of doctoral studies in Educational Sciences. Local doctoral study programs and supervision of doctoral students are generally of high quality. The present Vilnius university Doctoral School focuses on international cooperation and seeks to enrich and extend existing practices. By bringing together relevant research groups in the Educational Sciences, the Doctoral School promotes and supports (inter)national collaboration in educational research with the aim of creating mass, building connections within the field, and making the research more competitive in the European and global context.

The Doctoral School is being established in doctoral studies in Educational Sciences at Vilnius University by drawing on the expertise from experienced researchers at Vilnius University and recently integrated Šiauliai Academy. It is also open for doctoral students and their scientific supervisors from the Educational Sciences consortium. The Doctoral School can also be attended by doctoral students from other fields of science if their research topics are related to educational sciences, or their topics are interdisciplinary. Strategy of Doctoral school was approved by Philosophy Faculty Board on 2022 10 19.

The Doctoral School provide doctoral students in Educational Sciences with the opportunity to become highly qualified researchers and leaders, able to focus their research on current and future European and global challenges and to engage in continual transformative professional learning.

The Vilnius University Doctoral School of Educational Sciences will act as an innovative environment for doctoral research that addresses several of the Salzburg Principles for the third cycle, which is an important step towards meeting international European standards. At the same time, the Doctoral School will be compatible with existing doctoral degree programs and structures.
