STEM centre at Institute Technologi Bandung (ITB)
Vision
To become a hub & platform for improving education, research and linkage to industry in an integrated environment of Science, Engineering, Technology, Art, and Mathematics.
To be a vehicle to the employability of graduates.
Main aims:
The Bandung Institute of Technology has decided to establish their STEM centre under the Directorate of Education Development ITB. February 5, 2020 is the date when both the Directorate and its subunit of the STEM centre were established. The Directorate of Education Development ITB was established as part of the University Organization structure under the Vice Rector of Academic and Student Affairs.
Though there were no official inauguration ceremony, the planning of STEM activities has started from establishing a team for Reviewing the Concept and Application of Student-Centered Learning (SCL) and Providing Soft Skills and Entrepreneurship Materials in the organised educational courses at the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (https://ditbangdik.itb.ac.id/).
The main issues concerning the establishment of the STEM centre
The Directorate together with the University-level Curriculum Development Team examines developments in industry and society and their implications for higher education undertaken by ITB. In accordance with the objectives of the education program at ITB, graduates are expected to work well in their professional fields, be able to complete postgraduate education, and be able to develop themselves in a different or changing work environment. Therefore, the Directorate is tasked with developing an appropriate educational model for this purpose. Graduates are expected to find jobs with shorter waiting times with education that takes advantage of SCL and builds soft skills and entrepreneurial knowledge.
