Paskaita vyks anglų kalba be vertimo.

Many people seeking professional help do so with implicit trust in us as psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists or other mental health professionals. They can trust in our skills, qualifications and in our intentions, to be helpful and to do no harm. However, a significant number of people who need our care have been disadvantaged with adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and/or failures in professional relationships in adolescence or adulthood. Consequently, they approach us with varying amounts of suspicion, wariness, fear and even hostility. The Lighthouse Mentalization-based Treatment Parenting Programme has specialised in building trustful relationships with the most hostile and suspicious parents and families. MBT techniques and the concept of epistemic trust are particularly useful when considering how to engage these clients. This lecture will describe how one can work with suspicious, mistrustful, fearful and hostile clients, and bring about trust in the professional relationships.

Gerry Byrne, BA, RMN, MPsychPsych. Consultant child, adolescent and adult psychoanalytic psychotherapist. MBT practitioner, supervisor, tutor (adult, adolescent, parenting and family) for Anna Freud. Originator of Lighthouse Parenting, an approach to help parents ‘see’ their child, rooted in psychoanalytic and attachment concepts. Former Head of Attachment and Perinatal Services in Oxford Health NHS Trust, founder and director of SOLAS OXFORD, a not-for-profit company which supports professionals working with vulnerable children, adolescents, families and adults. Researching epistemic trust as part of his PhD at the University of Oxford. Author of a picture book; All at Sea, published by Walker Books.
