An international academic conference devoted to the relevance of Emmanuel Levinas’ ethical philosophy of the Other today, with a dual focus, on the challenges of our contemporary world, e.g., environmental disaster, Russia’s war, rising fascism, omni-surveillance, obscene wealth disparity, etc., and on the reception of his thought in relation to newer intellectual developments, e.g., postmodernism, posthumanism, neorealism, plasticity, Anthropocene.

Conference will be held in English.

Venue: Vilnius University, Universiteto str. 3, Aula Parva and Senate Hall, Vilnius, Lithuania.

The Lithuanian Society for the Study of Religion is pleased to invite scholars interested in all aspects of religion and technology to attend the 2023 Conference of the European Association for the Study of Religions on September 4-8, 2023, in Vilnius, Lithuania. 

The relationship between religion and technology is a neglected theme that needs serious research, not just concerning the past, but also in the rapidly changing modern world, where religions and religious movements have become an integral part of the digital world, influencing public opinion, and sometimes even serving as propaganda for political regimes.

Thus, we hope that the conference will contribute to the topic by bringing scholars from across Europe to Vilnius, celebrating its 700th jubilee where its founder, Grand Duke Gediminas invited scholars and scientists, ensuring religious freedom and making Vilnius a hub of religious discourse for centuries to come.

South Asia has witnessed significant movements throughout its history. Millions of people have migrated within countries and across borders, bringing with them their cultures, languages, religions, goods and ideas. Globalization has intensified these processes and led to significant changes in the way people live, work, and interact with each other. In the last decades, South Asia has undergone unprecedented transformations such as rapid urbanization, environmental challenges, and technological penetration of social and cultural life. There have also been significant political changes in the region, contrastive and conflictual, including populism, authoritarianism, and increased political, gendered and social violence that threaten the foundations of civil society, social movements and political empowerment of the marginalized communities. The effects of the changes are felt on various levels – individual, national, regional and global. In this context of the rapid changes across multiple sectors and scales, the proposed summer school aims to explore South Asia on the move, with a particular focus on the movements of people, ideas, cultural forms and political practices. It will provide a perspective on how various types of movements and changes have shaped and continue to shape the identity of South Asia as a region and its relations with other regions of the world.

Lietuvos kriminologų asociacija, Vilniaus universiteto Filosofijos fakultetas ir LSMC Teisės institutas pristato trečiąjį kriminologijos festivalį Demistify.

Pasaulis yra visai kitoks, kai į jį žiūri iš anapus veidrodžio. Nejaukus ir šaltas. Noris užsimerkti užsimiršti kasdienybėje. Nematyti, negirdėti kitų. Bet ateina laikas ir žingsnis gilyn į veidrodį žengtas. Laikas išvaikščioti veidrodžių karalystės labirintus kažkieno kito klumpėse. Pasiklysti, susipainioti tarp tiesų ir mitų, bet grįžti. Išgliaudyti save, dekonstruoti pasaulį. Ir surinkti iš naujo.

Kriminologija yra apie tai ir apie viską kitką. Apie tai kas yra, apie tai, ko nėra, apie tai, kas jau buvo ar tik gali ir turi būti. Apie žmones baudžiamus ir apie žmones baudžiančius. Kančią ir laimes, tiesas ir abejones. Erdvė, kurioje peržengiamos mokslų ribos ir diskursų apribojimai. Kur tyliai atpažįstamas blogis ir kuriamas švelnumas.

2023 m. rugpjūčio 18-20 dienomis kviečiame į trečiąjį kriminologijos festivalį DEMISTIFY. Jis vėl vyks Šilėnuose, VILIAS LAUMIA žemėje, pasiklydusioje tarp Suvalkijos lygumų ir Dzūkijos miškų, gervių klyksmo ir traukinių ūkimo. Vietoje, kur laikas sustoja, o gal net pradeda eit atgal. Kur ramų prieglobstį randa mūsų baimės ir pikti sapnai.

Lauksime Jūsų. Kartu nersime į kriminologijos bedugnę. O po to ateis rytas. Šviesus, šiltas. Ir viskas bus gerai.

XIV Summer School, August 21-25 2023, Vilnius, LITHUANIA

Unfolding social work research in global and personal crises: critical and intersectional perspectives

The Nordic-Baltic Doctoral Network in Social Work (NBSW) is a joint network of doctoral schools, universities and other institutions in social work in seven countries. The network provides research training for PhD students in social work in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and other countries.

We invite PhD students to participate in the summer school of the Nordic-Baltic Doctoral Network in Social Work (NBSW). This summer school aims to bring together PhD candidates in social work from Nordic and Baltic countries and beyond for five days of intensive lectures and thorough discussions on social work practice and research in global and personal crises. Participation in summer school is free of charge, however, submission of a paper (optionally short or long) connected with the theme of the summer school is a prerequisite for participation.

Every crisis, whether it be psychological, intrapersonal, societal, or global, is a liminal existential experience that either weakens or strengthens the person by providing new insights and opportunities. A crisis, although it is a state of severe psychological discomfort, is a healthy reaction to a difficult and emotionally significant life situation that requires new ways of adapting and coping because the existing ones are no longer sufficient. During the life course, a person faces both normative and non-normative crises on personal, group, and community levels. Additionally, in the last couple of years, we experienced several global crises—firstly, the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdowns; then, the invasion of Ukraine and the outcomes of following economic restrictions.

Crises are characterized by a variety of psychological, social, economic, and political outcomes for individuals, groups, and communities, which in turn offer new challenges, opportunities, and directions for social work theory, practice, research, and education. Thus, the summer school will focus on various models and theoretical approaches to crisis intervention in social work, in addition to aspects of research ethics when conducting a study with vulnerable groups of people and holistic knowledge that informs critical and intersectional perspectives on crises.

The summer school will each day contain a mixture of keynote presentations related to the perspectives of the overall topic and workshops where the PhD students present and discuss their papers under the guidance of experienced researchers or keynote speakers.

2023 m. birželio 20 d. 14 val. 201 aud. Ugdymo mokslų instituto doktorantas Jogaila Vaitekaitis gins disertaciją „STEM ugdymas Lietuvoje: posthumanizmo perspektyva“ edukologijos mokslo krypties daktaro laipsniui gauti.

Disertacija rengta 2016–2020 metais studijuojant doktorantūroje Vilniaus universitete ir ginama eksternu.
