The lecture deals with the Architecture of the Umayyad Palaces in Palestine and the region. It will focus on the Architectural elements of these palaces, and the similarities and differences among them, and the influence of the Persian and Byzantine civilizations on their Architecture.
Dr. Omar Abed Rabo, chair of the humanities Department in Bethlehem University is an associate professor in Islamic History and Archaeology, Cultural Heritage, and Jerusalem studies. He received his Ph.D. in the Fatimid History and Archaeology of Jerusalem from the Hebrew University in 2012. Since 2013 he has been a faculty member at Bethlehem University. In 2014 Dr. Abed Rabo completed post-doctorate studies at the Institute of Asian and African Studies at the Hebrew University in Islamic Archeology and History. He has a long experience in Islamic archeology and history research and was the field director for several archaeological excavations, such as the Birzeit University excavations project between 1998 and 2000 in Khirbet Birzeit, Ramla, and area supervisor in Tiberias.
